Eight Earthlings, a chorus sworn to defend the planet, retell the Martian invasion through the Author, an ordinary man who stumbles into it. From the fallen cylinder and the heat-ray on Horsell Common, through the artillerymen's plan, a cave-in with a frightened Curate, the flight through London and the doomed Thunderchild, the Author crosses a ruined England to the day the invasion ends. Written for an ensemble that plays every other part.
